Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Friday told the Assembly that the government would execute a system where students with A Plus grades in all the subjects get Plus One admission in the institute they choose.

He was replying to an adjournment motion raised by the Opposition over the suicide of a fifteen year old girl in Pattambi of Palakkad district. Reshma, an SLLC student, had committed suicide over disappointment of not getting Plus One admission in any higher secondary schools.

Chandy said that the proposed method would not come under the Single Window System. “If the seats are not adequate in a particular school a child wishes to get admitted, the government will allot more seats,” he added.

Chandy, terming the suicide “unfortunate,” put the blame on the single-window-system. He added that the government would grant financial help to the family of the girl.

The single window system for Plus One admissions was implemented during the tenure of previous LDF government. As per the system, students can submit single application to the Principal of any government higher secondary schools or aided higher secondary schools in a District for any number of options in subject combinations and schools they want to study.

There is no restriction on applying for more than one district. Since the selection is through district wise Single Window System, single application is enough for considering several options of schools and subject combinations within the District.
