Stone pelting, attacks mark CPM hartal; Dawn to dusk harthal in Kasargod Today

Ernakulam: The hartal called by the CPM on Thursday to protest against the arrest of P Jayarajan in the state was marked by stone pelting and attacks in various places. Vehicles were blocked in several parts of the state and stones were pelted at KSRTC buses in many districts. Bus employees were attacked. In some places newspaper bundles were burnt. The Congress office at Madukothu in Kannur was destroyed. In Payyanur, Moovatupuzha and Kallarukattam newspaper bundles were set on fire.

The Congress office at Pullaril in Kanjangad was burnt. Three Congress offices in Pinarayi were also completely destroyed. Attack was also unleashed against the League office in Edathod. Also the CPM office at Kannur Station Road was destroyed.

In Kozhikode, stones were pelted towards the KSRTC buses in Koduvally. The Congress committee office at Villapalli was set on fire. Two KSRTC employees of the Thiruvananthapuram Nedumangad KSRTC depot, who reported for duty in the morning, were attacked by hartal supporters. They were taken to the Nedumangad taluk hospital for treatment.

At Thellakath in Kottayam the window panes of a KSRTC bus was broken. In Vyppin at Ernakulam and Kalpetta in Waynad vehicles were blocked. In Alapuzha, a KSRTC driver was injured in the stone pelting.

The protestors also blocked vehicles plying on the Palakkad Puducherry National Highway route.

To protest against the death of DYFI activist, the CPM has called for dawn to dusk harthal in Kasargod on Friday.
