Breaking News

NEW YORK: Facebook’s initial public offering of stock is shaping up to be one of the largest ever. The world’s definitive online social network is raising at least $16 billion for the company and its early investors in a transaction that values facebook at $104 billion.

It’s a big windfall for a company that began eight years ago with no way to make money.

Facebook priced its IPO at $38 per share on Thursday, at the high end of expectations. The IPO values Facebook higher than Amazon and other well-known companies such as Kraft, Disney and McDonald’s.

Facebook’s stock is expected to begin trading on the NasdaqStock Market sometime Friday morning under the ticker symbol “FB.” That’s when so-called retail investors can try to buy the stock.

Rupee Hits new all time low of 53.71/ dollar

By breakingnewskerala on Wednesday, December 14th, 2011 in Also in the News, Top Break

Mmbai,Dec 14:The rupee touched an all-time low on Tuesday to close at 53.71 against the US dollar. The rupee slid even to 53.71 during the day – before regaining slightly at the end – as foreign investors pulled out Rs 3,200 crore in November, followed by domestic investors, too.

A global investor shift from the crisis-hit euro to the dollar also fuelled the rupee’s fall.

“No finance minister will find it comfortable when rupee is declining,” Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee told Rajya Sabha.

He said, “We are concerned because we cannot remain insulated from the adverse impact of that.If the European crisis extended to a large economy, any amount of bailout package will not be sufficient and worldwide depression will take place”.

A Reuters poll of analysis, however, said the rupee might rise again early next year to trade above Rs 51 to the dollar in three months.

By breakingnewskerala on Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011 in Travel

Location: Alappuzha, South Kerala.India
Referred to as the Venice of the East, Alappuzha has always enjoyed an important place in the maritime history of Kerala. Today, it is famous for its boat races, backwater holidays, beaches, marine products and coir industry. Alappuzha beach is a popular picnic spot. The pier, which extends into the sea here, is over 137 years old. Entertainment facilities at the Vijaya Beach Park add to the attraction of the beach. There is also an old lighthouse nearby which is greatly fascinating to visitors.

Another delightful experience while in Alappuzha is a houseboat cruise. The ones you find in the backwaters of Alappuzha are in fact reworked version of kettuvallams of olden times. The original kettuvallams or rice barges used to carry tons of rice and spices. The kettuvallam or ‘boat with knots’ was so called because the entire boat was held together with coir knots only.

Of late, houseboat come with all creature comforts of a good hotel including furnished bedrooms, modern toilets, cozy living rooms, a kitchen and even a balcony for angling. And one can always enjoy uninterrupted views of backwater life while staying in a houseboat.
